Indonesian Independence Day in Garut
Celebration of Indonesian Independence day in Garut begins a week even a month before 17th of August. In Garut, the people very excited to celebrate it and they begin to paint and decorate their houses, fences and portal. Besides that, they also rise the flag and hold many games such as football, marbles game, eating shrimp chips, bike decorating, cooking contest, sack contest, wooden clogs contest, climbing betel tree contest and so on. In the end of games, the winner of the games will get many prizes and cups. On August 16, every school gather in city square to hold ceremony. The students are obligated to wear traditional clothes or the unique costume. After that, they begin the carnival and walking around the sub district area. The best school will get cups and prizes for their performance. The top of celebration hold on August 17, which is followed by the people from district of village and they follow the ritual as students done.
